Unsent
So... with all this thinking about the reunion, I thought maybe I should give a little holla out to other people I've been thinking of and missing. You know how it is. You may be close to someone for years and years or even just a few weeks, but they touch your life, and when they're no longer a part of it, you miss them. Here are a few people I miss, people I would love to get back in touch with someday, whether it's for an ongoing friendship, or just to say, "How have you been?" Maybe posting this list won't do any good, but maybe someone will notice and say, "that's me," or "I know that person." I Google my own name periodically--doesn't everyone? Anyway, here's the list. :-)
I suppose we should start at the beginning... That would be Danielle Calloway (Callaway?). Danielle and I attended Easthaven Baptist Church School when we were in first and second grade. She was precocious and pretty, and was my best friend at the time. I don't even know if she realized how much importance I placed on our friendship. For all I know, I was just an acquaintance to her. At any rate, our ties were severed when my family moved and I went to third grade in a Pearland public school. I would love to catch up with her someday.
Next would have to be Johnathon Daniels (maybe Jonathon? unsure about the spelling), the intellectual with stunning eyes. Also my first crush. Seems like I only remember him being in the same school with me in sixth grade at Jamison Middle School, and then again in seventh grade at Pearland Junior High. Then he was gone. Where'd you go? Why did you leave? I would like you to know that you were missed. No doubt now some kind of highly paid scientist working in a top-secret government job, Johnathon was one of the brightest people I've ever known. I would love to learn where life has taken you, whether or not you are married and have kids, and I also want you to know this: Although my friends thought it would be funny to ask you to go to the dance with me (revelling in the pinkness of my cheeks at the sudden publicness of my private desire), I was not joking when I asked. What may have been prompted by the attempt at humor-by-humiliation ended with a sincere request on my part, one that I was too timid to make without the provocation. I was so very disappointed you had a Boy Scouts meeting. Obviously, I am now happily married, and have no interest in extramarital affairs. I would just like to catch up with you someday. One never really forgets their first puppy love.
Robert Jacob Sanders, who preferred to be called Jacob, was someone I met during the one semester when I attended school in Woodville. He was gentle, soft-spoken, and well-read. He wanted to be a writer. Well, that sounds silly--he was a writer--but I meant he wanted it to be his career. He wrote poetry, listened to old jazz, theorized on religion, and took a canoe out onto the still water to be at peace, and he was just a beautiful person. I hope life has treated you well. Feel free to write.
Also during my stint as a country girl in Woodville, I was part of a surprisingly kick-ass choir group. We went to Solo and Ensemble competition, and my ensemble trio was awesome. Did I ever tell you guys how very proud I was to be with you? You were SO great. I am uncertain about last names, but I remember Grace and Jenny. Wait...That's probably Jenifer with one "n." Jen (Smith???), whose short stature had no bearing on the greatness of her voice and personality, and Grace (Boykin?), with her impossibly bouncy curls and amazing clear, resonant alto. You guys rocked! We sang "If It Be Love," a peppy little number about...err...how love is mourning. The words never seem to fit. I think we really tried to sound melancholy, but the tempo and tune were just so darn HAPPY. Anyway, I would love to catch up with you guys someday. You two and Jacob comprised my "group" of friends away from home, and I miss you all.
Jody Morris, eyeglass maker extraordinaire. ;-) Jody worked at the Vision Center in the Jasper Wal-Mart when I worked there, cashiering and later working the toy dept. salesfloor. Though I made a few other close friends there, Jody was the most intriguing person I knew. I guess I'm drawn to quiet, gentle, introspective people, since I'm one too. Jody moved too, to Abilene I think? Or Amarillo? Someplace with an A. I've actually called Jody on occasion, and I thought he was going to email me.... Well??? Ahem... MysticSunbeam@aol.com. Now you have no excuse. ;-) Seriously, though, I just hope life is treating you well, and that you've found someone who loves you as much as you deserve to be loved. You may be interested to know that a couple of our coworkers back then had asked me if you were gay. Most sensitive, intelligent men (especially in a country town, let's face it) are perceived as homosexual. God knows why...heaven forbid a man actually be (gasp!) SENSITIVE! At the time, I didn't think so (you had mentioned a girl friend), but who could know for sure? Who even has any right to ask? It's your own business and no one else's. Besides, it doesn't matter. Why should it matter? You are a beautiful person and I love you. My wish for you is that you are happy and loved. :-)
Well...that feels kind of nice, having gotten those names actually out of my head and onto a blog where they may do some good. :-) It's just a short list, of course. There are many other people of whom I have fond memories. And...if you are reminiscing and would like to catch up with me, do feel free to drop me a note.
Love and hugs to you all,
MommyFaerie
